چکیده

We study theoretically the ac Josephson effect in voltage biased planar junctions of d-wave superconductors. For some orientations of the superconductors a current peak is found at finite voltage in the current-voltage characteristics. We pick out the relevant physical processes and write down an analytical formula for the current which clearly shows how the midgap state acts as a resonance and produces the peak. We present a possible explanation for the zero-bias conductance peak, recently found in experiments on grain boundary junctions of high-temperature superconductors, in terms of resonant transmission through midgap state of quasiparticles undergoing multiple Andreev reflections. We note that within our framework the zero-bias conductance peak appears in rather transparent Josephson junctions of d-wave superconductors. c © 1996 Academic Press Limited

Reentrance effect in macroscopic quantum tunneling and nonadiabatic Josephson dynamics in d-wave junctions.

We develop a theoretical description of nonadiabatic Josephson dynamics in superconducting junctions containing low energy quasiparticles. Within this approach we investigate the effects of midgap states in junctions of unconventional d-wave superconductors. We identify a reentrance effect in the transition between thermal activation and macroscopic quantum tunneling, and connect this phenomeno...

اتصال جوزفسون بین ابررساناهای دمای بالا با ضریب عبور اختیاری

In this paper, a dc Josephson junction between two singlet superconductors (d-wave and s-wave) with arbitrary reflection coefficient has been investigated theoretically. For the case of high Tc superconductors, the c-axes are parallel to an interface with finite transparency and their ab-planes have a mis-orientation. The physics of potential barrier will be demonstrated by a transparency coeff...

Current-Voltage Relations in d-wave Josephson Junctions: Effects of Midgap Interface States

We investigate the dc current-voltage characteristics of d-wave Josephson junctions, where the barrier at the interface may have arbitrary strength. Dividing the current into n-particle currents In (n integer), we can explicitly show which physical processes are responsible for the subharmonic gap structure (SGS). For orientations where midgap states (MGS) exist, the resonances in the n-particl...

Andreev bound states in high - T c superconducting junctions

The formation of bound states at surfaces of materials with an energy gap in the bulk electron spectrum is a well known physical phenomenon. At superconductor surfaces, quasiparticles with energies inside the superconducting gap ∆ may be trapped in bound states in quantum wells, formed by total reflection against the vacuum and total Andreev reflection against the superconductor. Since an elect...

Anomalous Josephson effect in p-wave dirty junctions.

The Josephson effect in p-wave superconductor/diffusive normal metal/p-wave superconductor junctions is studied theoretically. Amplitudes of Josephson currents are several orders of magnitude larger than those in s-wave junctions. Current-phase (J-phi) relations in low temperatures are close to those in ballistic junctions such as J proportional to sin(phi/2) and J proportional to phi even in t...
